Knee Problems

Knee problems are extremely common issues. Many people seek our help for knee pain, immobility, or lack of strength in the knees. The functionality of our knees is very important. They are a perfect addition to the legs because they enable us to bend, squat, run, and walk. If we did not have knees, we would have to walk straight-legged and would likely need a cane, walker, or wheelchair. Ligaments, tendons, and cartilage play an important role in our knees. When any of these become weak, tear, or rip, serious knee problems occur.
Numerous problems can arise with knee trouble. Dr. David Wootton treats patients suffering from knee problems to get them back on their feet and out of pain. Patients with knee problems experience pain, aches, numbness, grinding, and loss of mobility. A common injury is a torn ligament such as the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) or the Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL). These injuries are also called sprains or strains. Ligament problems typically occur when playing sports such as football or soccer, but that is not always the case. Twisting or overextending can also cause a ligament injury. Tendons in the knee can also be torn or ruptured. This condition often occurs from over usage of the tendon or some kind of a blow to the side.
The tendons and ligaments aren’t the only thing that can cause knee problems. Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis in the knee and it occurs when the cartilage slowly wears away over time. Rheumatoid arthritis in the knee can damage the cartilage and cause inflammation. Disease, disorders, and infections can all take a toll on a patient’s knees. At The Wootton Clinic, we are inspired to restore agility and strength so you can live your life to the fullest. We will review your health history and you will have a physical examination. X-rays or other procedures may be necessary to diagnose your knee problem.
